The alpine is home to a diverse community of plants that range from wet loving species that depend on the snow melt to plants that can handle the harsh, blazing sun and drying winds. Above the treeline on mountains, is one of the most harsh environments and yet, are home to some very specialized species of plants that can handle the extreme weather events.
Silky Scorpionweed
With purple spikes of flowers, bumblebees are especially fond on these alpine nectar sources. With deeply dissected leaves and stunning flowers, they thrive in the home rock garden!
Golden Fleabane
Although tiny in stature, these exquisite wildflowers put on a show in the rock garden, with swathes of golden yellow, miniature daisies!
Lance-leaved Sedum
A native Sedum that thrives in a rock garden! With thin, spike-like leaves, these native succulents are a joy to grow and butterflies love the yellow flowers!
Golden Fleabane
(Erigeron aureus)
One of our absolute favourite wildflowers, they bloom very early, but continue to bloom all season long. Only 2" tall, they are excellent for the front of the garden!
